Parties, Parties and More Parties

May 7, 2011
Well, maybe just parties and parties... today I went to two birthday parties.  The first was for Dante.  He turned 2 a few weeks ago, but his family has been fighting sickness for the past few weeks, so he had his birthday party today.  He is so cute!!  The second party was for Bryan.  He turned ... a  year older!!  (He's an adult so I won't share his age.)   He has an annual game night to celebrate his birthday each year and this time it was at the teen center.  We got to play games, hang out with fun friends and eat lots of junk food.  Sadly, I only have pictures from Dante's birthday party.

He loved his balloons!!

And did a great job blowing out the candles on his cake!  : )

School Fun

May 6, 2011
I love the staff at LACS!!  They are always willing to go above and beyond what is expected of them just to make sure the students are learning and having fun.  Today Leah was in charge of chapel and wanted to play a Jeopardy game to review all that we had learned over the school year.  Instead of just doing a simple game she dresses up as "Alex Quebec", a game show host from Canada (and Meredith was Vanna White, who helped keep score).  My favorite part was the mustache!

After chapel was over Stephanie was talking to the first graders, and they were telling her that Alex was really Miss Larsen, because it looked like her and sounded like her.  Stephanie told them that Alex was Miss Larsen's cousin from Canada, and that was why he looked like her.  The cutest part was that they were convinced, it's so much easier to trick the little ones.  : )

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

We loved our little sombreros, and I love that we are all wearing them like fascinaters from the royal wedding... : )

El Cuatro de Mayo

May 4, 2011
Tonight we went out to dinner for Julie's birthday!  We went to Rodeo Mexican Grill, not Rodeo, like the drive, Rodeo, like the show with cowboys and bull riding.  It was yummy food and fun company!

Julie the birthday girl with Hallee, Danielle and Dante thinking it's not such a good idea to take this picture...

One half of the group...

...and the other half.  Super fun dinner!  Happy Birthday Julie!

Party City Time

May 3, 2011
Today we went to Party City!  I don't think I have ever been in one before, and it was AMAZING!  There was stuff for every kind of party you can imagine, all organized and ready to go.  We went to the costume section so my friend could find a wig and it was so much fun: hats, wigs, socks, glasses, fake teeth, mustaches, everything you could ever imagine!!  It was a great store, I can't wait to go back.

Also, I got some pictures of the other 6th graders in my art class who were not there yesterday:

So cute!  : )

Teaching Art

May 2, 2011
Teaching art isn't always easy, but we can usually have a lot of fun once the students settle down and get to doing art.  Today was our first day back after spring break, plus a week off for state testing, and a week where the 6th grade class was away at outdoor education, so we have had three weeks away from art class.  It was fun to finally get back to it.  We were looking at "lines" today and doing a quick project using lines, making radial designs and coloring them in with colored pencils.  As I was getting ready for the students to come in, I thought this looked like a cool picture, and I guess it turned out ok.

We had done a project before our long break, where the students were put into pairs and drew each other.  Their pictures turned out really cute, so we took pictures today.  The pairs in the pictures are each holding the picture they drew of the other person in the picture... does that make sense?!?!

The other groups all had one person missing today, so I will take their pictures tomorrow!  : )

Bike Rides and BBQ's

May 1, 2011
Happy May Day!  To celebrate today, I went on a bike ride.  : )  Just a short one, to Coffee Bean, where we sat and enjoyed the beautiful day while drinking a delicious blended coffee drink.  I love riding around the city, especially on Sunday, when the traffic is a lot less.  There are amazing views everywhere you look.  Here's the one I loved most today (I do love Leah, but I'm really talking about the view of the sky-line...).

After our bike ride we decided to have a BBQ, I guess to keep celebrating May Day.  I grilled some salmon and Leah had steak.  We also had corn on the cob and asparagus.

What a delicious May Day dinner, Yummmm!
